Background: Probably the bastard son of a mighty figure (presumably a Storgodi, but no one has ever known who), baby Asbjörn was left to the care of the good monks of Helgafell, in the Snæfellsnes peninsula. He grew up under the tutelage of Brother Gawain, a Welsh monk who came to consider him as his son. Asbjörn was learning fast, but was paradoxaly dissipated and not keen on working, much to Gawain's despair. He finally discovered what his near-son was "made for": archery. Having been a soldier before becoming a monk, he discretely taught young Asbjörn the only thing he really liked: shooting arrows and riding (activites that were not very suitable to a novice). Eventually, Asbjörn's urge to move and his skills that were inadapted to the life of a monk had the Abbot send him away. However, exploiting his naivety, he made him promise to return to the monastery one season a year to perform various chores. This is why Asbjörn regularly leaves the Covenant, mostly in Summer and Autumn. When the boy left, Gawain offered him his greatest treasure: a long bow he had brought from his home country, Wales.
